Our Mission

Our Mission:

Utilizing revitalized classical theatre, The Curtainless Theatre strives to be a community-centered resource: our mission is to create accessible and inclusive performances that inspire reflection and community dialogue, with a special focus on civic engagement and educational outreach.

Our Vision:

We specialize in the works of William Shakespeare, but we are interested in telling all classical stories. These stories form the foundation of our various cultures and societies, and we believe that exploring them can give us a better understanding of our humanity as a whole as well as our connections as individuals.

We take the label of "Community Theatre" very seriously. We believe that theatre can play an important role in a community, and we strive to engage with ours and produce theatre with a purpose. Through service-based projects, we seek to highlight our community's vulnerable populations, who are too often overlooked or discounted, and foster meaningful discussion around the issues we all face. We believe that thoughtfully produced theatre is a valuable educational resource and a catalyst for change.

While we strive to create an insightful experience through all our productions, our schools are an especially important venue for these types of learning opportunities. We acknowledge that arts educators are working tirelessly to expand our students' world views, but we know that this is becoming more challenging as arts funding becomes increasingly difficult to secure. In this climate, we believe that it is up to the community to step in and fill that void. Through our educational outreach programs, we seek to engage students and children in storytelling experiences that can forge connections and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Recently the lines of hatred and bigotry that run through our society have become all too clear. We believe, however, that when we truly see and connect with our fellow humans, these dividing lines can be overcome. Stories are the threads that connect us throughout history, and they have the power to reach across differences and bring us together.
